Treatments

I. Endovenous Vein Ablation

Endovenous vein ablation is a relatively new procedure designed to treat varicose veins. Unlike the olden days, when varicose veins were stripped surgically, the endovenous procedure utilizes radiofrequency or laser energy to close the vein through just a needle. Following the procedure, a Band-Aid is placed over the insertion site, and compression stockings are placed on the treated leg. Walking and resuming normal activities after the procedure are encouraged. Current data indicate that individuals who have been treated with the endovenous method experience faster recovery, minimal pain and have an overall pleasant experience.

A. Radiofrequency Ablation

A Radiofrequency catheter is a relatively new procedure designed to treat varicose veins. This method utilizes radiofrequency waves generated by an electrode, which is inserted into the vein through a needle, to close the vein. The heat generated from this electrode causes the veins to heat and eventually collapse. With time, the veins are removed by your body.

B. Endovenous Laser Ablation

A laser fiber is inserted through a needle and directly into the vein and heats the lining within the vein, damaging it and causing it to collapse, shrink, and eventually disappear. This technique typically is used to treat the large varicose veins in the legs.

II. Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a method of removing varicose veins on the surface of the legs. It is done in the office under local anesthesia. This procedure involves making tiny puncture through which the varicose veins are removed. The punctures are so small no stitches are required. Veins are very collapsible such that even large veins may be removed through the tiny punctures used in this technique. The patient is able and encouraged to walk following the procedure, as this will reduce pressure in the veins therefore improving results. After treatment, a compression bandage and/or compression stocking are worn.

III. Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a treatment for the removal of spider veins, reticular veins and small varicose veins. Veins are injected with a sterile FDA approved chemical solution, which irritates the vessel's lining, making it become inflamed, harden, and eventually fade away completely. Blood circulation is carried out through healthy veins located deeper within the body, so the outward appearance and sometimes pain associated with the problem veins is significantly reduced.

IV. Laser Spider Vein Treatment

Laser vein removal for spider veins is an easy, fast, and effective way to treat small superficial veins. Laser therapy has been used in the medicine for more than 30 years. The laser uses a focused beam of light in the treatment of veins, the wavelength of light is targeted to the pigment in the blood. The laser heats up the small vein and destroys it. The laser beam is focused and does not damage the nearby skin tissue. Over a period of time the vein is reabsorbed by the body and disappears.
